Before you get started you will want to get together a few things. It is not very much so do not worry. You will need a swatch of leather, more if you want different colors, beads, or charms, some scissors and a safety pin.

The first thing you need to do is take out the leather swatch or swatches and cut three strips of leather. If you do not want to cut or do not trust yourself you can buy precut leather, but if you want to say you did this from scratch, then doing the cutting on your own is the best idea. Besides, this way you can choose the length and width that you want the strips to be. Keep in mind though, that anything larger than ¾ of an inch wide will probably be too large to braid.

The next thing you need to do is place the three strips on an even surface. Hold the three of them and make a loop. Tie one end the loop to a tight surface so you can begin braiding.

Take the right cord over the middle cord and then move the middle cord to the right hand. Then move the left cord over the middle cord and move the middle cord over to the left hand. Continue this pattern while keeping it tight.
